Creating and Managing Subgroups

Map your entire organizational structure in beUnity

Why use subgroups? By nesting groups, you represent your real-world organizational structure digitally. This ensures order in the group overview and makes it easier for members to find their way around.

Creating a new subgroup

If you want to found a new unit (e.g., a team within a department):

  1. Open group overview: Go to the overview of all groups.

  2. Open menu: Find the group that should serve as the "parent group". Click on the three dots (⋮) there.

  3. Create subgroup: Select the "Create subgroup" option and follow the steps.

Important regarding privacy: A subgroup can never be "more open" than its parent group. If the parent group is "Private" or "Closed," the subgroup cannot be "Open." it adopts the maximum level of openness from above.

Assigning an existing group as a subgroup

Do you already have two groups and want to subordinate one to another? Here is how:

  1. Open settings: Go to the group that is to become a subgroup and open the Settings.

  2. Select parent group: Look for the section for the parent group and select the desired target group.

  3. Check requirement: For this to work, both groups must be in the same category. If the desired group does not appear, please check whether the categories (e.g., "Teams" vs. "Projects") match.
